My Journey to Bali - Discovering Art at Every Corner
Share
Hello everyone,
After an inspiring trip to breathtaking Bali, I, Martijn Wagenaar, am back at Tropic Zen. What started as an adventure to find new tropical items for our collection, grew into a surprising journey of discovery through the world of art and craftsmanship. Bali showed me that art is not only found in galleries, but that it is often hidden in the most everyday objects.
Bali: An Unexpected Art Lesson
Bali has taught me to look at things differently. The Balinese live with a deep respect for art, and that is reflected everywhere. Wherever I went, I saw how art is interwoven with daily life. From the beautiful handmade kitchenware to the fine textiles, the attention to detail and craftsmanship is truly impressive.
Hidden Art in the Everyday
During my exploration I came across so many products that I never thought would have such artistic value. For example, in the category 'Kitchen' I discovered wooden spoons and serving boards that are engraved by hand. These objects tell stories about Balinese nature and culture, and they are true works of art that you can simply use in your kitchen.
Decorations: More Than Just Decorations
The decorations I found in Bali really touched me. Here, decorating is not just a visual thing; it is a way to convey stories and spirituality. The hand-carved wooden statues and wall hangings I came across often carry ancient symbols and meanings. It was inspiring to see how each decoration is so much more than just a decoration; it is a piece of heritage.
Lamps: Art that Shines
One of the most surprising discoveries during my journey was how art can also be expressed through light. I found lamps that are handmade from materials such as bamboo and coconut. These lamps are not only functional, but also radiate an artistic atmosphere. The play of light they create in a space is truly enchanting and adds an artistic dimension to any interior.
Textiles: Art in Every Detail
In the 'Textiles' category I found some of the most beautiful handwoven cloths and cushions I have ever seen. Each piece is handmade by local artisans using ancient techniques. The patterns and colours tell stories of Balinese traditions, and I realised that each textile piece is a unique work of art. These pieces are not only beautiful, but they also carry a piece of Balinese soul with them.
Lifestyle: Art for Everyday Life
Even in the most mundane objects, I saw how art and craftsmanship come together. In the ‘Lifestyle’ category, I discovered jewelry, bags and other accessories that are handmade. These items are not only practical, but they are also deeply imbued with Balinese art and culture. They are proof that art is not just something to look at, but something you can wear and use every day.
Conclusion
My trip to Bali completely changed my perspective on art and design. I learned that art is often hidden in the simplest things, and that every product can tell a story. At Tropic Zen, I am proud to share these unique, art-infused pieces with you. With this new collection, I want to give you the opportunity to bring a piece of Bali’s creativity and artistry into your home.
